The Inca Trail is famous and stunning, but crowded with tourists. Those, wanting to avoid the tourist crowd might choose to hike the evenly beautiful Salkantay Trek.

Other fabulous treks close to Cusco are those to Choquequirao and to Ausangate, one of the holy mountains of the Incas.

Several volcanoes look out over Arequipa, the biggest city of South-Peru. El Misti (5825 metres) and Chachani (6075) can be climbed. Just a little bit higher than Mount Kilimanjaro!
